“Angel of the Poor”
Jesus Malverde is a controversial figure in Mexican folklore, known as the “Narco-Saint” or “The Generous Bandit.” Born in Sinaloa during the late 19th century, he lived in poverty and became a symbol of hope for the marginalized. Legends depict him as a modern-day Robin Hood, stealing from the rich to help the needy. While venerated as a folk saint, he’s also associated with the world of drug trafficking. Today, shrines and altars dedicated to him can be found, reflecting his enduring influence on those seeking hope and protection, despite debates surrounding his glorification of criminal activities. The existence of Malverde is not historically verified.
