2018 Bowman Chrome released (officially) yesterday. And, oh man, the Shohei Ohtani phenomenon is out of this world. Yesterday was all Ohtani, everywhere you looked. We’re talking atomic refractor autos numbered to 100 getting bid up well over $30k. Base autos in the thousands. Buy it Now posts listed at $40k. One day later, a red refractor (#1/5) surfaced and is so far bid up to $55,500.
The craze is real. Bowman Chrome boxes sold for $170 retail, which is more than usual. Topps clearly anticipated the craze that Ohtani was going to bring, but I don’t think anyone anticipated what day 1 would really be like. Day 2, and I’ve noticed that a lot of these prices are already coming down considerably. A blue refractor #d to 150 had a BIN price of $44k yesterday, yet it just sold for $7k and some change. Regardless, these autos are HOT and are going to be bringing a premium for a while.
If you were lucky enough to pull one, post it, and collect on it yesterday…congratulations. If not, future sales will likely not see numbers anywhere near what we saw yesterday, but you should still get a good chunk of change for these well into the future.
