Australian Opium Dealer, Special Photograph no. 1399
A wharf labourer who associated with water front thieves and drug traders, William Stanley Moore operated as an opium dealer, often with large quantities of faked opium and cocaine.
Between 1910 and 1930, these “special photographs”, taken by the New South Wales Police Department, were mostly taken in the cells at the Central Police Station in Sydney and are of “men and women recently plucked from the street, often still animated by the dramas surrounding their apprehension.”
