Hal Finney was an American computer scientist and developer in privacy software. In his early career, he was credited as lead developer on several console games including Adventures of Tron, Space Attack and Astrosmash.
A noted cryptographic activist, he was a regular poster on cypherpunks and ran a successful contest to break Netscape’s export-grade encryption.
Finney created the first reusable proof of work system and was an early Bitcoin contributor, receiving the first Bitcoin transaction from BTC creator Satoshi Nakamoto.
